STARTING AT FERRARS – RECEPTION

If your child is due to start our school in the September

You will need to complete a Starting School application for a Reception place for your child by mid-January. Places are allocated by the local authority School Admissions using a strict criteria (see our Admissions page for more information). Children that attend our Nursery do not automatically get a place in the main school allocated to them.

The Academy holds an Open Day for Reception in March which all new parents are invited to attend with their child. This is open to the community to attend also.

You will be notified after the Easter break by Luton School Admissions if your child has been allocated a place at the Academy.  If your child is not already attending our Nursery you will be asked to come into our main school office with your documents as requested to complete the registration process which will include filling in a child registration form. If you need help with this then please ask as we would be happy to do so. Alternatively you can download the registration form which can be found in our Useful Forms section, complete it at home and bring it into the office with you. Your child cannot start school until this information has been received.

In May we will send you a letter inviting you to attend a New Parents Information Meeting in the summer term [June], this is co-ordinated by Mrs Johnston in the school office who deals with all our new admissions. If your child doesn’t not attend our Nursery provision you will also be given the date of your home visit as part of our Admissions procedure. Staff will meet your child in their home environment and have the opportunity to speak with you on a one-to-one basis. Home visits are co-ordinated by our Family Worker, Marie Jennings and take place between May and June.

At the New Parents Meeting you will meet key staff members and find out more about the Academy including the curriculum, daily routine, expectations and how you can be involved in your child’s school life. There will also be the opportunity to ask questions.

If your child is starting our school after our September intake (In-Year)

In-year applications are for entry into a year group outside of the normal intake points. You will receive an allocation letter from Luton School Admissions confirming your child’s school place and are asked to make contact with us.

You will need to come into our main school office with your documents as requested to complete the registration process which will include filling in a child registration form. The Family Worker, Marie Jennings will telephone you to arrange a home visit as part of our Admissions procedure.  Staff will meet your child in their home environment and will have the opportunity to speak with you on a one-to-one basis.

Your child will start their session straight away, there is no settling in period. The teacher will discuss with you if there are any concerns with your child settling in and may suggest a shorter timetable in some circumstances. Please don’t worry if your child gets upset, this will pass. Staff are experts at dealing with this and children often settle quickly once you have left.
