Chair of Governors
I’m a first generation Lutonian and have lived in the town for most of my life. I was educated at Ferrars Juniors school, then attending Challney High School for Girls and The Luton Sixth Form college. It feels like I have come full circle by coming back to the Ferrars school family volunteering as a Community Governor since 2016.
Professionally I own and manage an information technology consultancy and work as Head of IT Service Management for a London Mayoral development corporation. During my career I’ve delivered technology transformation projects, operations and business change across UK central government and the private sector.
Prior to moving into the role of Chair I was Vice-Chair for three years and continue as Trustee and on the Board of Governors. Chair of Governors is a key role ensuring that the governing body sets a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school whilst guaranteeing oversight of the financial performance and effective use of resources amongst many other responsibilities.
A good relationship between the Governing Board and Principal is crucial ensuring that statutory responsibilities are met, we’re focused and aligned on school improvement and that the children have the best possible learning experience and environment that can be provided. The motivation is to improve outcomes for all the children in the school.
The Ferrars Academy school team is excellent, and the leadership provided by the Principal is of an extremely high standard. I’m sure as parents you are aware of that and will continue to provide your support. If you need advice or have a question, either in general or about your child's education please contact the Principal in the first instance. I’m also available if needed.
All governors are expected to undertake ongoing training to ensure a better understanding of their purpose and function. Ultimately ensuring the ability to contribute effectively and support the school’s specific needs. Everyone has different skills and brings different life experiences.
If you’re interested in understanding more and maybe applying, then please contact the school to discuss further.
I’m sure that you will join me in wishing all the children at The Ferrars Academy to achieve the best that they can in their time in the school and into higher education.
