Annual Community Litter Pick at Lewsey Park 20th May 2025

Thank you for all the families, members of the local community and staff who came to our annual litter pick at Lewsey Park on Saturday. The event was supported by Kevin Poulton and Ali Islam from Luton Borough Council, Sarah Owen MP and Spiderman. We were overwhelmed by the support received. Can you believe we collected 20 bags of rubbish from around the park. Well done to everyone involved. Hope to see you next year.

On Wednesday Year One went to a local Mosque and Gurdwara to learn about the Muslim and Sikh faiths. The children learnt about the different symbols and practices in both places of worship alongside some of the beliefs in Islam and Sikhism. The Mosque kindly gave us some snacks and drinks before we walked to the Gurdwara where we were also lucky enough to share some food as part of their langar. We were so proud of all the pupils who walked sensibly, listened carefully and showed respect in both places of worship. This has been a fantastic R.E learning experience. 

VE Day Celebrating 80 years 8th May 2025

We had a fantastic time celebrating VE Day with a day full of learning, fun, and community spirit. The morning was spent taking part in meaningful activities where we explored the history and importance of VE Day, reflecting on the sacrifices made and the peace that followed. In the afternoon, we came together for a wonderful picnic, complete with lively jive dancing, singing, and lots of laughter. It was a joyful way to honour the past and celebrate together. Thank you to everyone who joined us for such a memorable day!

Beth Tweddle Olympic Gymnast Visit 6th May 2025

We had a wonderful surprise guest join our assembly on Friday. Olympian gymnast and Dancing on Ice star Beth Tweddle. She delivered an inspiring assembly about determination and the importance of exercise. She talked through her journey and showed videos of her amazing achievements. The children cheered and gasped in awe. Thank you Beth!

Year One had their Fantastic Finish for their Towers, Tunnels and Turrets topic this week. The children came to school dressed as someone they may have found in a medieval castle. They spent time learning a medieval dance, making crowns and shields and cooking a traditional stew. We then had a royal banquet where they got to taste their yummy cooking and share their medieval dance.

It was lovely to see so many families attend our Mother's Day Breakfast. It was the busiest one yet! Lots of lovely feedback on the menu selection. The fruit platter and filled croissants were a firm favourite. Great to have lots of empty plates and full tummies to start the day!

The Children enjoyed a beautiful Spring walk on Tuesday 18th March. They explored Lewsey Park for signs of Spring collecting items as they went along to put into their colour matching egg boxes. They were also on the hunt for The Shark in the Park using their homemade telescopes. We even got to enjoy some playtime in the park and use the brand new communication board, sadly there were no sharks in the park!

The children had lots of fun celebrating British Science Week. Each year group explored this year's theme of 'change and adapt' through exciting experiments and investigations. We had a fantastic response to the home learning competition. The children produced beautiful artwork that represented this year's theme in a variety of creative ways. Well done to all those children who worked so hard on their entries and to the very worthy winners.

Key Stage One were lucky enough to have the opportunity to take part in a glow in the dark dodgeball workshop. They learnt about how the game works and the best techniques for aiming and throwing when playing the game. And the best part... they did it in the dark! With the use of special lights and high vis equipment a new exciting element was added to an already exciting game!

Year One have got off to an exciting start to this half term's topic, Towers Tunnels and Turrets. We had the chance to take part in a fencing workshop. The children were taught the correct stance and how to use a fencing sword before partaking in paired matches.

Trip to the Zoo 28th Feb 2025

The children that went to the zoo yesterday had a wonderful time, thankfully the weather was kind to us too. Lots of the animals were out; we saw the lemurs, the chimps, the bears, the giraffes, the meerkats and the wolverine. During the workshop they learn lots about how the animals at the zoo are looked after and kept healthy. They also learnt about the roles of the people who work at the zoo. Everyone had a great day!

This year's Storytelling Week was a huge success, with our children diving into an unforgettable underwater-themed adventure! They immersed themselves in imaginative tales of ocean creatures, hidden treasures, and magical sea worlds, sparking creativity and a deep love for storytelling. The children also thoroughly enjoyed their workshops, where they fully engaged in bringing these stories to life through hands-on activities and interactive exercises. From captivating tales to engaging workshops, the week was filled with excitement and learning. Together, we've created lasting memories that will inspire our children to keep exploring the magic of stories for years to come!

This week, Year One showcased their hard work from their P.E lessons to their parents and carers. During their Dance this lessons this half term, they have been following a scheme of work written by the Royal Opera House. They have worked both in classes and as a year group to create a dance to tell the story of Alice in Wonderland; using different heights, ways of travelling and soundscapes to bring the characters to life. We were so impressed and excited to see such a wonderful turn out of parents and carers. The children thoroughly enjoyed showing off their hard work and they did a superb job. Well done Year One!

Year 1 celebrated their fantastic finish with a space dance workshop from Dance Days! The children showcased their knowledge of space by recalling fascinating facts and creatively reenacting space walk through group dances. It was a joyful goodbye to Beegu, we loved having her on Earth with us!

Foxes and Badgers Fire Engine Visit 4th Feb 2025

What a fantastic Monday morning the Foxes and Badgers had. We had a visit from White Watch Dunstable who came in their fire engine. The children were able to sit in the fire engine and spray the water from the hose. We also got to see the lights flashing and hear the high pitched sounds of the sirens.  Thank you White watch for being so amazing with our children with additional needs. They loved the experience today.

In Reception this term we are learning about 'People who help us'. On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have some special visitors in school. Police Community Support Officers Clare, Maisy and Derek came and explained how they help others in the community. They taught us that the police do lots of jobs and don't just lock up 'bad guys'. We got to try on some official police hats, and they even brought their van, it was enormous! We loved looking around the vehicle and hearing the sirens, they were very loud! It was an amazing afternoon!

This half term Our ECO Warriors learned about the struggles that animals face in the winter, a lack of food is a big problem for our local bird species due to a variety of things such as a lack of insects and the cold weather. We have spent our ECO Sessions making our own bird feeders to sell to raise money for our ECO causes. We are hoping to give some of the money to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and hope to purchase various seeds for future planting. We roped in the rest of the school to help us and each class made a good amount of feeders for us to sell.

The children had a fantastic time learning all about France during our Arts Week. Throughout the week, children had the opportunity to learn some interesting geographical and historical facts about France and immersed themselves in French culture. Every class completed French food tasting and crafting activities, from creating Eiffel Towers from straws to collaging a French rooster and everyone took part in a Can Can dance workshop. What a Fantastic French week we've had! Thank you to all the parents for supporting the children by visiting our Art exhibition.

Watoto Children's Choir 23rd Jan 2025

The children in Year 1 and Year 2 went over to the Junior school this morning to watch a performance by the Watoto Children's Choir. The choir have come all the way from Uganda to perform all over the UK. The Watoto organisation help orphaned and abandoned children to find new families and work with vulnerable families to help support them. The choir performed a number of songs for the children and they even got to join in with the dancing. The dancing and singing was spectacular and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed it. A huge thank you to Chris and Martyn from St Hugh's for inviting us and to Ferrars Junior School for hosting the event.

This week, Miss Wells and Miss Rashid attended a ceremony at Luton Town Hall to celebrate graduating as climate action teacher champions as part of the Catch programme. The programme has involved designing a detailed action plan to help The Ferrars Academy to work more sustainably and therefore to do our part to tackle issues surrounding climate change. The lady mayor of Luton, Tahmina Saleem was in attendance to celebrate and to award participating schools with their graduation certificates.

Year One arrived at school to a spectacular scene... a spaceship had landed on our school grounds! They looked for clues about who or what could have landed and lots of the children predicted it must be an alien. The children spent time learning about space so that if/when we find our new friend we might be able to help them locate their planet again. The children took part in arts and craft activities, enjoyed looking up facts about space and were astonished when we watched some videos on how astronauts sleep and brush their teeth in space. We will be keeping our eyes peeled this half term to try and find the little alien and to help it on it's way home.

For Year One’s Fantastic Finish we rounded our topic of ‘Who’s Afraid of the Dark?’  with a workshop from Zoo Lab. We learnt how animals move and what they need to survive and how they hunt for their prey and protect themselves. The best part of our experience was coming up close and personal with some real insects and reptiles.

The Year 2 School Choir performed in the community at various events and raised money for the Luton & Dunstable Hospital NICU Parent Accommodation Appeal. Once the charity have counted the money they will let us know how much the choir has raised. Our first performance was at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital, where we managed to make some people smile whilst they were in the waiting area. We visited Betty Dodd Court next and had a sing-along with residents there. The choir did their final community performance at St. Hugh's Church and provided the entertainment at their "Tuesday Together Christmas lunch". We also had our annual Carol Concert at the school where some pupils were able to perform to their families, staff and guests and get everyone in the Christmas spirit!

On Monday the 9th of December the Year 2 School Council children along with Mrs Agnew and Miss Farrell were very proud to attend Luton's 2024 School Council Conference at the University of Bedfordshire. They joined schools from across Luton to come up with ideas on how to make Luton a child-friendly town by 2040 and how we can make Luton a safe place to live. They came up with many ideas and these were shared throughout the conference.

This week we celebrated Road Safety Week with Neon Day, highlighting the "Be Bright Be Seen" message and sustainable travel. Children had fun designing reflective jackets, using traffic signs and practicing road safety. Even on darker days, remember to wrap up warm, wear bright clothes and walk to school to stay safe and visible!

The children in Badgers and Foxes had a lovely time on their welly walk to the park. They enjoyed walking in the crunchy leaves and watching the squirrels playing and climbing together. They then had some time to play in the playground before heading back to school.

To mark the end of our topic, Year One wrote invitations to their loved ones and invited them in to school to take part in an afternoon tea. They used their spreading and chopping skills to make sandwiches and fruit kebabs and enjoyed decorating biscuits with their grown ups. They then spent precious time together playing games and reading stories. It was wonderful to see so many of their loved ones in school.

Last week reception went to ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. We had a great time! We saw the tigers sunbathing, Chimps playing and we even saw one of the elephants taking a shower. We made the most of our day and saw as many animals as we could. Some of us were so tired at the end, we couldn't keep our eyes open on the way home. What a zoo-tactic day!

The children also learnt about Aboriginal art, made a boomerang, collaged the Sydney Opera House and made coral reef diorama. Buzz, buzz, buzz! Lots of buzzing was heard across the school as we ran a four-day event called 'Buzzing about Bees'. We kicked off a series of events with a bee dress up day. The children kindly made small donations to go towards helping us create bee friendly areas around our school grounds. In school, the children learnt about why it is important to look after bees and ways in which they can help. We were also lucky enough to have a Zoom session with Colin from the Bedfordshire Beekeepers Association.

Wow...what an eventful week! Our Carnival was buzzing with life and entertainment. This year’s theme was ‘Our World, Our Future’. Throughout the week children discussed what they could do to save the environment and all year groups participated by making their own bespoke costumes inspired by their book. They also learnt new songs and dances. How exciting! On the final day, children paraded their costume and performed their newly learnt song and dance. Well done to the overall winners: Pink Class!
