The children from The Den had a lovely time at Whipsnade Zoo last week. They enjoyed visiting the aquarium and the butterfly house and seeing the penguins and the bears. We finished off the morning by burning off some energy in the soft play area.

What a fantastic morning the children have had at the first Pioneer Learning Trust inter-trust competition. The children took turns to take part in different sporting activities, competing against children from four other schools within our Trust. We had some fabulous efforts from all - well done to all the children who have taken part, tried they best and won a medal for coming in the top 3 in their event. Go #TeamFerrars! Year One had an exciting WOW Day when they discovered a mysterious spaceship that had crash-landed on the school site. Using clues, the children investigated what had happened and made thoughtful predictions about who the visitor might be. They learned about the planets, created beautiful solar systems using watercolours, and developed their cutting skills while making rocket scenes. Using a range of construction materials, they designed and built their own spaceships. The mystery of who has landed is still unfolding…

School Council Workshop 3rd Dec 2025

Some of our School Council representatives recently attended a workshop with other school councillors from across schools in the West Area Partnership. Their discussions focused on improving Luton and making it a healthier, safer place for everyone in the future. During the event, our pupils discussed community challenges, and shared their own ideas on issues such as clean green spaces, safer roads, and better facilities for young people. They also had the opportunity to discuss their ideas with Sarah Owen Luton’s local MP. Our Year 2 School Councillors returned inspired and motivated, ready to bring their new knowledge back to school and help promote positive change throughout the wider community. A big shout out to Downside Primary who hosted the event. Thank you!

To celebrate World Kindness Day on the 13th November 2025, the Wellbeing Warriors worked heart to write lots of messages of kindness on hearts. They then went round the school to hand them out to staff and even to parents on the playground after school. They certainly made people smile. What an amazing Brazilian Arts Week we’ve had! The children became real artists as they explored the bright colours and cool techniques used by modern Brazilian painters. Their artwork was fantastic! During the week, we also went on a journey across Brazil, discovering famous landmarks, learning all about the exciting Carnival celebrations and finding out how rainforest animals are affected by deforestation. Everyone had a great time trying tasty Brazilian food and dancing in our colourful Carnival workshop!

To launch our new topic “Who’s Afraid of the Dark?”, Year One enjoyed a special WOW Day sleepover at school! We all came dressed in our cosy pyjamas and spent time making pizzas, sleep masks, and friendship bracelets. We shared stories together, then snuggled up with a warm hot chocolate to watch a short film. It was a fun and exciting way to start learning all about the night!

To celebrate the end of their learning about different animal groups and their needs, the Year 2 children enjoyed an unforgettable Fantastic Finish! They took part in an incredible Virtual Reality (VR) workshop, where each child had their very own headset and was transported into the wild world of animals. From soaring with birds to diving beneath the ocean, they explored creatures from different animal classifications, spotting predators and identifying their prey along the way. It was a thrilling, hands-on experience that brought their science learning to life – the perfect way to round off their topic on animals!

This week, Year One closed their topic 'Marvellous Me' by hosting a tea party for a grown up that is special to them. We used our spreading and chopping skills to make sandwiches, iced biscuits, made crafts, shared games and so much more! The children are always so overjoyed to spend quality time with their grownups in school so we were so pleased to see so many able to join us!

Today we took a group of children to Tesco Extra at Skimpot Road with children from Southfield Primary School which was organised by the Pioneer Learning Trust. The children had a chance to scan items sold in the store, had a peek around the bakery, investigated what happens in the warehouse, and then looked around a delivery van! What a fun and educational filled afternoon they had! filled Thank you to Pioneer and Tesco Community Champion for this opportunity.

Year 2 children had a fantastic time at the beach, enjoying a day filled with sunshine, sea, and smiles. From splashing in the waves and building sandcastles, to lively games of football on the sand, the children made the most of every moment. A highlight of the day was, of course, enjoying a well-earned ice cream under the brilliant summer sky. It was a day full of fun, friendship, and unforgettable memories!

Reception had an amazing animal filled trip to Whipsnade zoo! We watched elephants splashing water, cheetahs sunbathing, giraffes eating crunchy leaves and so much more! We enjoyed discovering facts about the animals and eating our picnic in the sun! The children were so well behaved and their teachers were very proud. What an incredible day!

Paralympian Naomi Riches visit 4th Jul 2025

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome Naomi Riches to our school for a truly inspiring and memorable assembly followed by some personal classroom visits for individual questions. Their message of perseverance, resilience, and self-belief resonated powerfully with our pupils and staff, leaving them feeling uplifted and motivated. The way she shared her very personal journey with honesty and humour made a lasting impression on both students and staff alike. It was incredibly valuable for our children to hear first hand how challenges can be overcome with determination and a positive mindset. Naomi showed our pupils that anything is possible when you believe in yourself, and their visit has sparked meaningful conversations amongst our young pupils in the classroom ever since. We are so grateful to ‘Teachers Together’ for funding this visit—it was an unforgettable experience that will continue to inspire our school community long after the day itself. Thank you Olly and Naomi.

Year 1 had an amazing time at Knebworth House! They stepped back in time to explore the grand rooms, played with historic toys and wrote on slates like real Victorian children. After dressing up and enjoying a sunny picnic, they braved the twisty maze and followed the roaring dinosaur trail. What a fun-filled day of discovery and adventure!

Badgers & Foxes visit to Whipsnade Zoo 26th Jun 2025

On Wednesday the children in Badgers and Foxes visited Whipsnade Zoo. The weather was beautiful and we had a lovely day seeing lots of animals. We saw penguins, rhinos, giraffes, cheetahs and chimpanzees. I think the children enjoyed watching the bears playing in the water the most though.

What a wonderfully fun evening the Year 2 children had at the sleepover. The children made their own beds up in the hall and then headed outside for a few hours of fun which included hilarious water squirter fun. Miss Kelly was soaked! The children then headed inside to make their own snack, and played team games. To finish off the evening the children had a tour of the school seeing what happens when all the children go home. Children got themselves ready for bed, ensuring they brushed their teeth and changed into their pj's. After that , they all settled down to read their books using their torches or night lights and snuggled up with their teddies and drifted off to sleep. We had lots of early risers who were awake at 6am who were up and ready for breakfast!

This week, we were delighted to welcome parents into school to celebrate Eid Al-Adha together. The children explored the significance of this important occasion in the Islamic calendar, learning about its meaning and the ways it is traditionally observed. Families enjoyed taking part in craft activities alongside the children, followed by the chance to sample some delicious food kindly brought in by our wonderful parents. Year One started their Heroes topic with some real-life heroes visiting us at school! We were lucky enough to have a visitor from Luton and Dunstable hospital's charity team, the paramedics with their ambulance and some of the nurses from oPriory Gardens Surgery . The children learnt about important work these heroes do and more about their jobs. We even got the opportunity to explore the ambulance! Thank you to Priory Gardens Surgery for donating some books to the school, they will be well loved and enjoyed by the children.

The children had a brilliant time taking part in this year’s carnival parade! With the weather on our side, they danced joyfully to the music, proudly wearing their incredible costumes made from recycled materials. This year’s theme, Back to the Future, inspired some truly creative designs, and every child looked amazing. A huge thank you to all the parents who came along to support and cheer on the children, and to the dedicated staff who helped bring it all together. What a fantastic day!

On Tuesday 20th May, Year One celebrated the end of their topic 'The Secret Sky Garden'. We learned how to make bee bombs and scattered them in our pond area, we made bird feeders, we designed our own gardens using our Science learning and made honey cakes. We were also lucky enough to have Mr Bhatti come into school to help the children in Year One revamp one of our old bug hotels and build a new one! It is based on the Year Two bank, keep your eyes peeled for it. The Year One staff and pupils would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Mr and Mrs Bhatti for giving up their time, providing all of the resources and making this possible. We are looking forward to seeing lots of creepy crawlies make our new bug hotel their home and we can't wait to see our seeds turn into wildflowers and be enjoyed by lots of pollinators.

Relish Halal Food Yesterday afternoon Relish offered our parents the chance to sample some of the Halal food that will be on offer after the May half term. The Beef Bolognaise with fusilli and Sweet Chilli Chicken with Rice was very popular and the Orange & Apricot Oat Cookies were devoured quickly. This is always a good chance to ask our catering providers any specific questions you may have about the menus or recipes.

Annual Community Litter Pick at Lewsey Park 20th May 2025

Thank you for all the families, members of the local community and staff who came to our annual litter pick at Lewsey Park on Saturday. The event was supported by Kevin Poulton and Ali Islam from Luton Borough Council, Sarah Owen MP and Spiderman. We were overwhelmed by the support received. Can you believe we collected 20 bags of rubbish from around the park. Well done to everyone involved. Hope to see you next year.

On Wednesday Year One went to a local Mosque and Gurdwara to learn about the Muslim and Sikh faiths. The children learnt about the different symbols and practices in both places of worship alongside some of the beliefs in Islam and Sikhism. The Mosque kindly gave us some snacks and drinks before we walked to the Gurdwara where we were also lucky enough to share some food as part of their langar. We were so proud of all the pupils who walked sensibly, listened carefully and showed respect in both places of worship. This has been a fantastic R.E learning experience. 

VE Day Celebrating 80 years 8th May 2025

We had a fantastic time celebrating VE Day with a day full of learning, fun, and community spirit. The morning was spent taking part in meaningful activities where we explored the history and importance of VE Day, reflecting on the sacrifices made and the peace that followed. In the afternoon, we came together for a wonderful picnic, complete with lively jive dancing, singing, and lots of laughter. It was a joyful way to honour the past and celebrate together. Thank you to everyone who joined us for such a memorable day!

Beth Tweddle Olympic Gymnast Visit 6th May 2025

We had a wonderful surprise guest join our assembly on Friday. Olympian gymnast and Dancing on Ice star Beth Tweddle. She delivered an inspiring assembly about determination and the importance of exercise. She talked through her journey and showed videos of her amazing achievements. Year One had their Fantastic Finish for their Towers, Tunnels and Turrets topic this week. The children came to school dressed as someone they may have found in a medieval castle. They spent time learning a medieval dance, making crowns and shields and cooking a traditional stew. We then had a royal banquet where they got to taste their yummy cooking and share their medieval dance.

It was lovely to see so many families attend our Mother's Day Breakfast. It was the busiest one yet! Lots of lovely feedback on the menu selection. The fruit platter and filled croissants were a firm favourite. Great to have lots of empty plates and full tummies to start the day!

The Children enjoyed a beautiful Spring walk on Tuesday 18th March. They explored Lewsey Park for signs of Spring collecting items as they went along to put into their colour matching egg boxes. They were also on the hunt for The Shark in the Park using their homemade telescopes. We even got to enjoy some playtime in the park and use the brand new communication board, sadly there were no sharks in the park!

The children had lots of fun celebrating British Science Week. Each year group explored this year's theme of 'change and adapt' through exciting experiments and investigations. We had a fantastic response to the home learning competition. The children produced beautiful artwork that represented this year's theme in a variety of creative ways. Key Stage One were lucky enough to have the opportunity to take part in a glow in the dark dodgeball workshop. They learnt about how the game works and the best techniques for aiming and throwing when playing the game. And the best part... they did it in the dark! With the use of special lights and high vis equipment a new exciting element was added to an already exciting game!

The children that went to the zoo yesterday had a wonderful time, thankfully the weather was kind to us too. Lots of the animals were out; we saw the lemurs, the chimps, the bears, the giraffes, the meerkats and the wolverine. During the workshop they learn lots about how the animals at the zoo are looked after and kept healthy. They also learnt about the roles of the people who work at the zoo. Everyone had a great day!

This year's Storytelling Week was a huge success, with our children diving into an unforgettable underwater-themed adventure! They immersed themselves in imaginative tales of ocean creatures, hidden treasures, and magical sea worlds, sparking creativity and a deep love for storytelling. The children also thoroughly enjoyed their workshops, where they fully engaged in bringing these stories to life through hands-on activities and interactive exercises. This week, Year One showcased their hard work from their P.E lessons to their parents and carers. During their Dance this lessons this half term, they have been following a scheme of work written by the Royal Opera House. They have worked both in classes and as a year group to create a dance to tell the story of Alice in Wonderland; using different heights, ways of travelling and soundscapes to bring the characters to life. We were so impressed and excited to see such a wonderful turn out of parents and carers. The children thoroughly enjoyed showing off their hard work and they did a superb job. Well done Year One!

Year 1 celebrated their fantastic finish with a space dance workshop from Dance Days! The children showcased their knowledge of space by recalling fascinating facts and creatively reenacting space walk through group dances. It was a joyful goodbye to Beegu, we loved having her on Earth with us!

Foxes and Badgers Fire Engine Visit 4th Feb 2025

What a fantastic Monday morning the Foxes and Badgers had. We had a visit from White Watch Dunstable who came in their fire engine. The children were able to sit in the fire engine and spray the water from the hose. We also got to see the lights flashing and hear the high pitched sounds of the sirens.  Thank you White watch for being so amazing with our children with additional needs. They loved the experience today.

In Reception this term we are learning about 'People who help us'. On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have some special visitors in school. Police Community Support Officers Clare, Maisy and Derek came and explained how they help others in the community. They taught us that the police do lots of jobs and don't just lock up 'bad guys'. We got to try on some official police hats, and they even brought their van, it was enormous! We loved looking around the vehicle and hearing the sirens, they were very loud! It was an amazing afternoon!
