Starting in Reception
If your child is due to start our school in the September
You will need to complete a Starting School application for a Reception place for your child by mid-January. Places are allocated by the local authority school admissions using strict criteria (see our Admissions page for more information). Children that attend our Nursery do not automatically get a place in the main school allocated to them.
You will be notified after the Easter break by Luton School Admissions if your child has been allocated a place at the academy.
Registration and Induction
If your child does not already attend our Nursery you will be sent a welcome letter in May which will include our Pupil Registration Form, which you will need to fill in and bring to the school with the documents as requested to complete the registration process. The letter will also tell you the key induction dates including the New Parents Information Meeting, Home Visit and Transition Morning. If you need help with completing the registration form, then please ask as we would be happy to do so. Your child cannot start school until this information has been received. If you need any further help please speak to Miss Khalid at the main school office who coordinates all our new pupil admissions.
Home Visit
As part of our admissions procedures we will come and visit your child at home and discuss information about them with you on a face-to-face basis. It is also an opportunity to talk about any concerns or queries you may have regarding your child starting with us. Home visits are essential in making your child’s transition to nursery as smooth as possible. Your child will not be able to start with us until the home visit has been completed. All our home visits are co-ordinated by Miss Jennings our Family Support Lead and take place between May and June.
New Parents Information Meeting
At the New Parents Information Meeting you will meet key staff members and find out more about the academy including the curriculum, daily routine, expectations and how you can be involved in your child’s school life. There will also be the opportunity to ask questions.
When will my child be given a date to start school?
You will receive a further letter in July which will confirm the arrangements for September. There is no settling in period for Reception. Please do not worry if it is your child’s first experience of being in a school environment or English is a new language to them. Staff are very experience in helping children who have English as an additional language and will ensure they will have other children to help them settle in and make friends. The teacher will discuss with you if there are any concerns with your child settling into school.
If your child gets upset when you drop them off, don’t worry, this will pass. Staff are experts at dealing with this and children often settle quickly once you have left.
