Yoga Workshop Jan 18
It’s hard work being a child today! Children deal with many distractions, stimulations and demands.
At The Ferrars Academy we are aware that children’s wellbeing and happiness in school underpins their attainment and achievement with this in mind, we decided to be creative with our Sports Premuim to ensure that every child is involved in a healthy, non-competive physical sport which will have lasting benefits. As a result we decided to explore Yoga. Yoga is a helpful tool that has been proven to have a positive impact on children both physically and mentally
There are 5 key areas which yoga addresses and they all contribute to developing an individuals wellbeing
Enhancing Physical flexibilty
Improves Balance & co-ordination
Develop Focus & Concentration
Boosts Self-steem and Confidence
Strengthens the mind-body connection
We employed an instructor who came to school and led class workshops before delivering training to all staff and a taster session to parents. The sessions were positively received by all. One of our parents Mr Pattni commented “ It was a great bonding experience with my child. I felt she was a lot calmer going home and in the evening. I loved the whole session in particular the meditation part- we were vey relaxed”
Staff will now be able to encourage children to implement breathing excercises as an alternate way to handle stressful challenges and have a bank of simple calming poses that can be used both in the classroom and at home.
The plan for The Ferrars Academy is to implement at least 5 minutes of wellbeing activities daily. We are hoping to incorporate further sessions where parents and children can work together to develop mindfulness strategies.
