First Aid Training Year 2 Children Oct 18
First Aid Workshop
On Tuesday 30th October, Year 2 had a workshop on how to help someone in an emergency. The instructor, Simon, from Flat Stan First Aid spent an hour with each Year 2 class. Using child friendly Flat Stan manikins, this practical workshop covered the following –
* What is first aid and who can deliver first aid
* When and how to get help
* How to check if someone is responsive
* What to do if you think a casualty is not breathing
* The choking casualty
* What to do if someone is bleeding
* What to do if someone suffers a burn
Both staff and children really enjoyed the session, although we were shocked to find out that some of our Year 2 children thought the emergency number to call was ‘911’. We taught them the correct number, which is ‘999’. Please can you reiterate this with your child, so they confidently know what number to call in an emergency.
After the session, the children took home a first aid book, a sticker and a certificate. The book is an important part of the experience because the children can take their book home and show their family and friends. This means families and the wider community can learn important skills.
Sports Premium Funding was able to pay for this worthwhile workshop. We are hoping to fund another session for parent and child so watch this space….
