Year 1 Trip to Whipsnade Zoo July 2019
Year 1 had a fantastic day at Whipsnade Zoo on Wednesday 10th July. The sun shone for us and all the children enjoyed exploring the zoo. We were able to look at all the amazing animals including butterflies, penguins, chimps, lions, tigers, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and the wallabies that bounce around here, there and everywhere! Some of the classes went to the Birds of the World display and saw a stork, a sparrowhawk, an owl and brightly coloured macaws swooping and flying around us which was a wonderful sight to see. Some of them flew very close to us!
We all went to the Sea Lion display and learned that not only can they swim fast and dive in and out of the water like torpedos but they can also walk along on their strong front flippers. They were fun to watch but we also learned about how there is too much plastic in the world's oceans and seas and we must make sure we recycle as much as we can to stop our world getting more polluted. The sea lions helped show us how to recycle plastic bottles by putting them into a recycling bin. They were very clever! We discussed whether the animals we saw were carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and also talked about the habitats they live in in the wild which linked to what we have learned in Science.
There was just enough time to have a play in the adventure playground before we came back to school which the children really enjoyed too. We all had a super day in the sunshine!
