Buzzing about Bees April 2021
This week we have run a three day event called 'Buzzing about Bees'. We kicked off this event with a bee dress up day and were so excited to see so many buzzy bees about the school. The children were asked to bring in a small donation to go towards helping us create bee friendly areas around our school. The children managed to raise £245.36, thank you to all who donated.
In school the children have been learning about why it is important to look after bees and ways in which they can help bees. We were also lucky enough to have a Zoom session with Colin from the Bedfordshire Beekeepers Association. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning lots of facts about bees and asked Colin some lovely questions. The children have spent time planting bee bombs, creating fact files, looking at the shapes in a hive and taking part in bee craft.
Our Eco Warriors have painted some bee hives, see if you can spot them in our bee friendly areas. Our fabulous catering team also got involved and the children have had the chance to eat some lovely bee inspired food including honey cake, honey comb, fruit kebabs and lots more! Next week, Reception and Key Stage One will be taking part in a bee dance workshop by The Waggle Dance Company and in October we will be taking part in The Honey Show in association with Bedfordshire Beekeepers. We are feeling positive and excited about the difference we will make to our local bees.
