Year 2 WOW Day - 10th Jan 2013
On Thursday 10th January, Year Two held a ‘Wow Day’ to launch our new theme – Time Detectives! As our theme has a history focus, we decided to go back in time for the day. Our classrooms were transformed to look like classrooms from the Victorian Era and we all dressed up as Victorians…even the teachers! We all sat at individual desks and practised our writing and arithmetic on slates. We weren’t allowed to use computers or the Interactive Whiteboard all day and it felt very strange! At playtime, the children went outside to do drill (this is the Victorian equivalent of PE and the children concluded that it was very boring!), we then played with Victorian toys, such as marbles and spinning tops. In the afternoon, the girls did cross stitch whilst the boys learned how to do technical drawing. Although we enjoyed our day, and we learned lots about the past, most of us were relieved to return to 2013 on the following day…being a school child in the Victorian times was hard work!
